OVERVIEW:

Accountability continues to be a hot political topic and a great concern within higher education. The most public aspect of this accountability movement is fiscal accountability. As student affairs professionals we are expected to have a greater understanding of business practices and tacit knowledge of the budgeting process. Our professional organizations and colleagues recognize the need for fiscal management skills and yet many administrators assume fiscal responsibilities with little or no formal training. This workshop will provide participants the information necessary to understand the budget process

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Participants will gain an understanding of the budgeting process
  • Understand how to create, read, and evaluate a budget
  • Understand how priorities are reflected in a budget
  • Learn effective budget monitoring techniques
  • Understand the vocabulary of the budget process

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

  • Anyone who is uncomfortable with reading and/or preparing budgets
