OVERVIEW:
An essential aspect of conducting assessment is developing reporting mechanisms that will be read and acted upon. This presentation will discuss the types of reporting formats and how to present information that will be useful to your audience. Additionally, we will cover the appropriate use of different graphic representations (e.g., pie, line, bar charts) and best practices in creating infographics.

Finally, we will provide examples of how to make data and findings modular so individual pieces can be easily pulled out of larger reports/presentations and used as stand-alone pieces.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Learn key questions to determine the appropriate reporting products for the assessment's purpose and primary audience
  • Identify a series of appropriate reporting products given the assessment's purpose and audience
  • Articulate the principles and techniques associated with presenting data graphically
  • Understand how to parse large reports into modular pieces for easier audience consumption and use

FACILITATORS:
Angela Yancik Baldasare is the Director of Assessment and Research at the University of Arizona. Together with her Assessment and Research unit colleagues, Angela works to assess priority issues for the Vice President of Student Affairs, and provides consultation and training on assessment, evaluation, and research efforts throughout the division. Having formerly served as the director of a large non-profit research and evaluation organization, Angela has overseen the evaluation of more than 150 programs in education and public health fields, nationally and internationally, and has designed and implemented data collection systems to measure the impact of diverse programs, policies, and practices. Angela earned her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Arizona in 2000 and was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Dayton from 2000-2003.

Jen Meyers Pickard is an Assessment and Research Specialist in Student Affairs Assessment and Research at the University of Arizona. In conjunction with her unit colleagues, Jen currently works to increase assessment skills and abilities of division personnel via training, consulting, and collaboration with student affairs units on the design, coordination, and implementation of assessment plans and activities. With over 12 years of higher education experience in academic advising, orientation, parent programs, assessment, and research, Jen serves in leadership roles on the ACPA Commission for Assessment and Evaluation and the NASPA Parent and Family Relations Knowledge Community and is an active member of the NASPA Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Knowledge Community. Jen has a B.S. in psychology from Bowling Green State University and both a M.A. and Ph.D. in College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland.
