Online Residence Life Training Module
INTRODUCTION:
Summer residence life training is a busy and hectic time. From morning to dusk meetings, workshops, presentations and team-building exercises pack the agenda.
There is rarely enough time to cover all the important topics thoroughly. Until now. As StudentAffairs.com, the leading Internet resource for student affairs professionals, presents its 2008 Online Residence Life Training Modules.
HOW DOES THE TRAINING WORK
The Online Residence Life Training Modules are structured to supplement a department's summer training program for professional staff. The modules are available for a two month period, from July 3rd thru September 3rd. Being online, the training modules can be accessed at whatever time is appropriate to the time constraints of the regular residence life training sessions.
Each training module combines an asynchronous component with a threaded discussion board.
- textual information
- articles
- case studies
- web links
- other readings
The discussion board is open during the two month period for participants to post their thoughts and responses to questions posed within the various modules. The facilitator for each of the modules will have a presence on the discussion board for two distinct periods during the two months (see below). During these times the facilitator can directly respond to earlier postings.
The StudentAffairs.com Residence Life Training Modules are similar to our online professional development workshops, but allows for more flexibility on the part of participants and a greater degree of self-pacing.
ASSESSING PARTICIPATION
Each participant receives a unique logon and password to access the training site. This allows supervisors utilizing the Residence Life Training Module to:
- track participation level of staff
- gauge staff's competency in grasping material
- have StudentAffairs.com generate an overall assessment report
Part of the evaluation process is a participant assessment (quiz) at the end of each module. All of these results with be made available to the institutional contact person.
