Course Overview:
This three week course explores feng shui and residence hall living.
Feng shui is the art of creating the safest and most comfortable
living environments for people. Participants will stuart Brownlearn
how residence hall design and furniture arrangement affects student
cognition, socialization and well being. Participants will also learn
beneficial bed and desk placement to promote restful sleep and
focused study. Analysis of residence hall floor plans illustrates how
door, window, door and wall placement helps or hinders the resident
and how to enhance problematic building design for more positive
student behavior.
The curriculum also includes pertinent readings and case studies from
Mary's new e-Kit, The Mystical Pizza: Use the Super Knowledge of Feng
Shui to Make you College Space Work for You. Participants are invited
to submit residence hall floor plans for analysis.
Course Outline:
Basic feng shui principles and how they apply to college residence halls.
The "Power Spot" and how furniture placement affects student behavior.
How building design impacts student cognition, socialization and well being.
Analysis of door and window juxtapositions, hallways, room size and shape, ceilings and bathrooms.
Analysis of room and apartment floor plans from existing residence halls.
How application of feng shui principles can ease the lives of students and residence life professionals.
Discussion of case studies.

know how to apply some feng shui adjustments to existing residence hall structures.
be able to help students make feng shui improvements to rooms and apartments to enhance the college experience.
Instructo Bio: Mary Roberts an educator of thirty years, is an experienced feng shui
practitioner who lectures at colleges and universities around the
country. Founder of the College and University Feng Shui Initiative,
Mary teaches how to create nurturing living environments that support
productive study and relaxed living.
