Course Overview:
College and university campuses have become increasingly diverse over the last 20 years. Students come from a wider range of backgrounds, socioeconomic states, cultures, ethnic groups, sexual preferences, family compositions, etc. than ever before in history.
In this course, participants will explore models for campus programming and activities. These models will be examined in relation to student development theories and concepts. We will then look at effective methods to plan and implement programs designed to reach a diversified student body. Examples of campus programs and activities that are designed to meet the needs of students with differing backgrounds will be explored as well. Finally participants will review methods of effective evaluations and ways to continue programming for diverse student populations on their respective campuses.

- Become familiar with models of campus programming.
- Review models of programming and student development theory.
- Examine programs and activities on different campuses that are effective in reaching needs of diverse student groups.
- Learn to effectively plan and implement programs and activities for diverse audiences.
- Assess campus programs and activities at their respective college/university.
Individuals registering for CEUs will receive 1.0 CEU upon successful
completion of the course.
Instructor Bio:
Gailda P. Davis is a Program Director for a non-profit organization that supports college enrollment for low-income, urban students. She has approximately ten years experience within Student Affairs and Higher Education, having worked at large comprehensive universities and a small, private Historically Black University. She has served as a Pre-College Program Director, Residence Hall Director, Career Counselor, Director of Student Activities, and Dean of Students. Her academic credentials include a M.Ed. from Texas State University in San Marcos Texas in Counseling and Guidance with a focus on Student Affairs and a B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Davis has assisted numerous African American students and their families in the transition to college as well as in the successful completion of college.
