#2: Are the StudentAffairs.com online courses conducted in real time?
The StudentAffairs.com online courses are asynchronous which means they are not held in real time. Participants can logon to the course at their leisure from home or work. With participants from all over the world it would be difficult to schedule real time coursework or chat sessions. Still, each course will have a specific structure and time frame for course requirements and online discussion sessions.

#3: How much time will I be spending on the course?
The average amount of time per week is 4-5 hours. This includes time for course readings, work on projects or assignments and participation on the courses online discussion board.

#4: I might be away from an Internet connection during part of the course, causing me to miss a few days. Will this negatively impact my participation?
Because the online courses are asynchronous there is no set class meeting time. Participants logon when they want - at home, the office, or anywhere there is a connection to the Internet. Individuals should try to logon to the course site at least every other day, but missing a few days due to work or travel should not negatively impact your online course experience.

#5: Do I have to actively participate in the course or can I simply read the posted materials?
One of the benefits of the online courses are the views and opinions of every online course participant. Each individual is a unique and valuable course resource. Therefore, what makes the online course experience so valuable is participating on the course discussion board. The course experience will be lessened if individuals choose just to read the course materials and read the online discussion board postings without actually contributing themselves.

#6: How are the StudentAffairs.com online courses organized?
While each instructor has jurisdiction over the design and content of their class most courses are similar in their structure. They are asynchronous and structured with weekly readings, completing various assignments and participating on the online discussion board. Completing the end-of-the-course evaluation is also expected of individuals.
top

#7: What are the expectations for participating in an online course?
The course expectations will vary by each offering, but almost every course will have assigned weekly readings, assignments or exercises, participation on the discussion board and completion of the class evaluation.
