Online Workshops on StudentAffairs.com

Stu Brown
StudentAffairs.com

The Spring 2001 StudentAffairs.com online workshops for student affairs administrators are now set. As in the fall, the online courses will be utilizing the latest in course management software--Web Course Tools, better known as WebCT. WebCT is being employed in academic courses on college and university campuses across the country. The WebCT interface enables participants and the course facilitator(s) to interact around the content of the online course. Interaction with the facilitator, either in real-time or asynchronously, makes the StudentAffairs.com online courses a unique virtual experience.

The three courses being offered this spring are:

Conducting a Crisis Catastrophe Simulation

Irwin Nussbaum, an Associate Dean of Students at the University of Hartford, will provide a comprehensive step-by-step guide to conducting a catastrophe simulation on your campus. There will also be the opportunity to react to various case scenarios and be provided with examples of effective crisis management plans.

Developing Online Student Services

Dr. Donna Hardy Cox, of the University of Newfoundland, will present a workshop which will provide participants with the opportunity to review current initiatives and research in student services which support student learning in a 24/7 Cyber World. This course has been designed to provide opportunities to assess ones own campus approach and to apply new concepts and practices.

Teaching a Distance Learning Course: The Nuts and Bolts

Dr. Kim Chambers, of the Instructional Resource Center at the University of Connecticut, will cover effective student and faculty communication in a distance course, the instructional design of a course, and multiple content delivery methods.

The union between WebCT and the StudentAffairs.com online course material will afford participants, from all parts of the country, at all size institutions, and at all functional levels, an energizing and innovative experience.
