eframes: Framing Your Photos Via Cyberspace

Digital cameras are all the rage. With the new generation of personal printers, high quality pictures can be printed in the comfort of your office or home. But what if you yearn for the old ways of glossy photos that can be passed around the office watercooler, shared with student leaders or at family functions? eframes has created a simple concept to address this problem. Digital photos, either scanned or taken with a digital camera, can be uploaded to the eframes site where they can be developed as regular prints (along with a choice of enlargements). The service is user-friendly, quick and efficient.

But the main value of the site is the wide assortment of frames-- wood, metal and specialty --that can be chosen for your photograph(s) and ordered online with that favorite memory inside. You can also preview your photo interactively, using their "framing engine," with the frames to make sure of the best match. Users have the ability to crop or re-size photographs to ensure a snug fit. As the promotional material states: " We print it, we frame it, we ship it!"

Lastly, eframes has an album service where you can create your own album of photographs which is helpful if you don't have a personal Web site to post such images. Access can be given to friends and colleagues, multiple albums can be created and the photos can be edited or printed.

While the benefits for student affairs professionals may not be great, eframes does provide an outlet for the digital images to be printed at the click of a mouse. Instead of digital photos from award ceremonies, leadership retreats, or other undergraduate or professional functions sitting on your harddrive they can now be easily sent off for printing (with or without frames). It can be a nice reward for a student leader or memory for a departing colleague.
