Have you ever attended a national conference in an unfamiliar city? Questions abound--Where to dine? What to do outside the conference confines? What's the weather going to be like?
In the past, conference-goers could ferret out such information by spending hours surfing the Web. But, in our hectic lives, who has the time or inclination? The answer is StudentAffairs.com which this month unveils its Conference Center. The StudentAffairs.com Conference Center encompasses essential information for student affairs administrators attending national conferences. Links are provided for the host city's restaurants, attractions, night life, and even the weather. You can check-out the offbeat or link to Web sites to assist you in your travel arrangements. The Conference Center also points to the associations' official conference home pages.
Currently, the site has information about four national conferences:
More links to association conferences will be added within the next few weeks.
Accessing information is as easy as the click of a mouse. At the Conference Center main page, browsers simply point and click on the appropriate association logo which brings them to that convention's information pages. In Boston, for example, under the "Restaurants" heading is a link to the Boston Irish Pub and Restaurant Guide. In the offbeat category are links to The Museum of Bad Art, the Guide to Boston English, and Guide to Boston Restrooms.
In Indianapolis you can find links to the official Indianapolis 500 home page and a listing of the area's golf courses. Washington, D.C. links include Metro (the subway) tips for tourists and a colorful map of the Metro system.
As this is a new resource on StudentAffairs.com we are looking for your thoughts and comments. What should be added to the Conference Center? Changed? Please let us know, as well as what association's conferences should be added. Contact Stuart Brown.
The StudentAffairs.com Position Listing site continues to be the most accessed site on the Internet for student affairs administrators seeking job opportunities. The pages receive tens of thousands of hits each month. As of February 2000, over 270 institutions of higher education have subscribed to the service with the number growing daily.
The cost for colleges and universities to become eligible to list openings, which is based on the number of students attending, is relatively small. The price allows for a full year of unlimited job postings by any student affairs department; the cost is not a per position fee:
The turnaround time from first contacting StudentAffairs.com to being able to begin posting position openings is no more than one or two days. For more information, contact Stuart Brown at stuart@studentaffairs.com.
